After nearly a century of helping people overcome catastrophes, we know the aftermath of a storm is an emotional time. We know putting your life back in order is a top priority.

That’s why we moved fast to get to our customers and the community as quickly as possible.

Allstate Mobile Claims Centers are conveniently placed in areas most affected to help you take the first steps toward recovery. Customers are welcome to stop in anytime to speak with an adjuster, file a claim and non-customers too, can pick up a bottle of water or a teddy bear for a child who could use some comfort. Locations of mobile claims centers can be found here.

Whether you’re an Allstate customer or not, we’re sharing general insurance information, important government resources available to you and some quick safety and recovery tips found in our Allstate Good Hands Recovery Guide.

For quick reference, here are some steps we recommend doing after the storm has passed:

First and foremost, secure the safety of your loved ones.

  • Let your family, friends and others know you’re ok.
  • If cell service becomes congested, try text messaging or emailing. Also, consider posting your status on social media or registering on the American Red Cross’ Safe and Well website.
  • Follow evacuation orders and locate a temporary shelter or seek shelter with family or friends not affected by the disaster.
  • Conserve your phone’s battery life by reducing the brightness on your screen, turning off Wi-Fi, and closing apps that aren’t critical.

Do not enter your home unless you know it’s safe.

  • There could be exposed electrical wires, standing water or a natural gas leak. If you’re worried it might not be safe, don’t enter.
  • When it’s safe to return to your property, take account of your loss. Separate damaged from undamaged personal property. If it is unsafe to keep any damaged items, try to take photos of them for your adjuster to review as part of your claim, then properly discard them.
  • Make temporary repairs to prevent further damage. If necessary, have a qualified repair service or contractor make temporary repairs to prevent additional loss. Be sure to keep the bill or invoice and give these to your claims team to consider as part of your claim. Take plenty of photos before any repairs take place.
  • Your home may be considered uninhabitable for reasons like no running water or your overall safety is at risk. Check with your claims team to see if you have coverage for additional living expenses.
  • Save all receipts to document any increase in your expenses while your home is uninhabitable and give these to your claims team to consider as part of your claim.

Start the claims process as soon as possible.
